GORGEOUS GALLERIES

There are great galleries in St Mawes, Portscatho, Tregony and Veryan.

Further afield you’ll find local artists displaying their works in Truro, Falmouth and St Ives. We have a couple of other favourite galleries – the Porthminster Gallery in St Ives and the Lighthouse Gallery in Penzance.

If you are staying in Cockle Cottage you cannot have failed to notice the original work by Rachael Mia-Allen, we have more in our house – you are welcome to come and have a look. Her work can be found at Trelissick Gallery, located in an award-winning barn conversion at Trelissick, the gallery showcases a variety of local artists and craftspeople – featuring both established artists and emerging talent. The gallery is run by the National Trust, in partnership with the Cornwall Crafts Association.

There are many other wonderful local artists including Andrew Tozer, Robin Mason, Ben Taffinder, Mike Hindle and Neil Bolton.

Our favourite is The Harbour Gallery in Portscatho, open five days a week Wednesdays to Sunday and always open online! Featuring any number of artists such as local boy Ben Taffinder, who paints with a knife, Claire Henley and Jenny Aitken who both paint stunning pictures of local beauty spots – just the sort of thing you need a as souvenir of your holiday! Your hosts in the gallery Mark or Deborah are always up for a chat and they also host pop up exhibitions in the Fishermans Shelter on Portscatho – check out the website for more information.

There are two other galleries in Portscatho, Spindrift and The New Gallery – also well worth a visit, check out their websites for opening times.

Tregony Gallery is for serious art lovers – you wont’ find pretty pictures of the Roseland here as it is aimed at the art lovers market rather than just tourists. Thoughtful and revealing exhibitions are based on themes such as landscapes, light or emergent forms.

Veryan Gallery works with a small group of dedicated professional artists, each of whom are well established in their field. Their work ranges from exacting realism to the wild and wonderful, and with over a hundred paintings on display plus prints ceramics and jewellery we’re sure you will find something of interest. The gallery has been open for over forty years, and the quality of the work reflects the vast and varied experience of the painters, printers, and makers.

The Square Gallery in St Mawes has the advantage of being open seven days a week so you can pop in whenever you are passing by. It specialises in Cornish contemporary art craft and design.

Many of our guests have been spotted trying to pack a carefully wrapped package into their cars at the end of their holiday!
